How I Discovered What I Don’t Want?

Do you know what? I have been searching for my passion for a long time.

It actually started with my first work experience in a company. That experience shed light on something very important in my mind: what I truly do not want. And what I do not want is to become a white-collar worker. You can read what is white-collar here.

I studied law, and most of the paths available in this profession lead to companies, offices, and law firms. But that was exactly the kind of life I never wished for. I do not want to let myself be crushed under unbearable pressure. I do not want to be exposed to insincere conversations that do not come from the heart, conversations built only from ordinary, accustomed words.

Every single day, I questioned how I could reshape my path in a proper way. Even though I still do not know exactly where I am going, I know that I am capable of finding my way. You can read more about who I am and why I started this journal on my About page. I raised myself with this mindset, and I am still keeping it alive.

I think deciding what we do not want is sometimes more important than deciding what we want. Because most of the time, we tend to focus only on our desires. So I made a list: a list of the things I prefer to avoid throughout my life.

THE DISLIKE LIST

  • I do not want to be a white-collar worker.
  • I do not want to be trapped in a job that does not satisfy me.
  • I do not want to raise my children according to the culture I was raised in.
  • I do not want to chase a life that restricts my freedom.
  • I do not want to be involved in insincere conversations, even when I feel that stepping away might seem rude to people.
  • I do not want to be defeated by my impulses.
  • I do not want to remain in certain relationships only because of my impulsive needs.

This list made me feel relieved. Maybe I have not achieved everything on it yet, but at least I now have something concrete in front of me. I recommend that you make a list like this too — a list that helps you see your path more clearly and realize what you truly do not wish for in your personal journey.

We are mostly prone to postponing our future. We find it hard to believe that the future is actually closer than we think. But the truth is, we sew it together day by day.
